In 1948, Marc Chagall's 96 etchings, based on Nic Gogol's book "Les Ames Mortes", were published in an edition of 368 copies. The etching is in very good condition, very nicely printed, with a nice black tone. The etching paper is in very good condition. The "Les Ames Mortes" series is one of Chagall's three best etching series. This etching (no. 54) is signed at the bottom right of the plate and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity
