This beautiful Danish table lamp in solid brass with mahogany handle was designed by Bent Karlby in 1956. It was produced by LYFA, Copenhagen. This lamp is extremely rare and only a handful have come onto the market. It has a beautiful patina and signs of wear. The wiring has been checked and repaired where necessary, so this lamp is safe to use. According to the first owner, this lamp came from the royal library in The Hague before the start of the renovation.
Lyfa recently reintroduced the B146 (Governor) model as it is considered a classic. The new version is very nice, but lacks some of the natural patina and feel of an original.
Governor (Model B146) is a classic mid-century lamp from 1956 that proved to have an enduring appeal to design enthusiasts worldwide. Karlby's GOVERNOR lamp exudes a certain international flair. It's a confident and high-quality piece of lighting design that still has the power to impress. Bent Karlby is today widely regarded as one of Denmark's most prolific and versatile lighting designers of the 20th century. He began his collaboration with LYFA in the 1940s, a collaboration that would last almost four decades.
