Beautiful vintage ladies' armchair, model ‘Lotus’, designed by Rob Parry and produced by Gelderland in the 1960s. The Lotus is considered one of Parry’s more refined and luxurious designs, in which exceptional comfort and sleek Dutch modernism come together in an elegant manner.
This armchair comes from the estate of the first owners from Utrecht, where it has been used with care since the 1960s. Originally, it formed a set with a men's model Lotus. It is, of course, remarkable that both armchairs have remained together all this time.
After decades of use, the chair has been fully restored. The restoration was emphatically not aimed at ‘making it new’, but at preserving its original character and appearance. The metal frame has been thoroughly cleaned, and the solid walnut frame has been refinished with a satin matte finish. As a result, the Lotus has fully regained its warm, luxurious appearance and elegant lines, without losing its authenticity. The generous seat consists of three separate elements, each fitted with new high-density foam and reupholstered in a high-quality upholstery fabric in a deep dark green shade. The characteristic armrests have also been reupholstered, making this version extra comfortable. The combination of warm walnut wood, gleaming steel, and the rich green fabric creates a timeless look that fits effortlessly into both modern and mid-century interiors.
As you would expect from Rob Parry, this Lotus is exceptionally comfortable. An armchair you sit in in the morning and don't actually want to get up from in the evening, exactly in line with Parry's design philosophy: the person first, then the design. Pure, understated Dutch design with craftsmanship and quality that guarantee years of seating pleasure.
