THE STORY:
This superb five-piece master bedroom was created by master cabinetmaker Giacomo Rondolini in Todi, commissioned by Mr. François Villanova, French Consul in Rome, in the 1960s.
Few people have probably heard of Todi, but those in the know in Italy are well acquainted with this beautifully preserved medieval village. Located in Umbria, in central Italy, near Tuscany, Todi is one of the many towns in this region that are worth a visit, particularly for its rich tradition of classical furniture and high-quality cabinetmaking.
Indeed, the art of carpentry here represents a centuries-old tradition, preserving a wealth of knowledge and experience, and it remains a key center for this craft, where the specific qualities of Todi's artisans were forged.
Find more information about Todi's classic furniture, the workshops of the master woodworkers, and the non-formal vocational training schools, as well as the cabinetmaking school of the Crispolti Institute, in Marcello Rinaldi's book "Il mobile classico di Todi. Le botteghe dei maestri del legno, scuole non formali di formazione professionale e la scuola di ebanisteria all'Istituto Crispolti".
"CLASSIC FURNITURE OF TODI" is the title of the latest publication in the "Quaderni dell'Istituto Ciuffelli-Einaudi di Todi" series. The subtitle is: "THE WORKSHOPS OF THE MASTER WOODWORKERS, THE NON-FORMAL VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHOOLS, AND THE CRISPOLTI INSTITUTE'S CABINETMAKING SCHOOL".
"Quaderno n° 19" stands out for its in-depth historical and cultural exploration of the world of classic Todi furniture, an emblematic craft both locally and nationally, whose memory was threatened with oblivion.
