Rosenthal Studio-Line “Pianta” Sculptural Trio – Lino Sabattini – Black Porcelain Candlesticks & Vase – Germany
Description
A striking sculptural three-piece ensemble from the “Pianta” series by Lino Sabattini, produced by Rosenthal Studio-Line. The set consists of two tall candlesticks and one smaller vase, all executed in elegant matte black porcelain.
The design is inspired by organic botanical forms: each piece resembles a stylized plant stem opening into branching leaves, transforming functional objects into expressive sculptural silhouettes. The upward-reaching branches serve as candle holders or openings, creating a dynamic vertical composition that feels both architectural and organic.
The deep matte black surface enhances the sculptural quality of the forms. Light moves softly across the porcelain surface, emphasizing the flowing lines and subtle folds that run vertically through the bodies of the objects. Together, the three pieces create a rhythmic sculptural grouping that works equally well as functional objects or as a minimalist decorative installation.
Designer
Lino Sabattini (1925–2016) was one of Italy’s most celebrated designers and silversmiths of the 20th century. He began his career working with Gio Ponti, whose influence helped shape Sabattini’s refined approach to modern design.
Sabattini became internationally renowned for his sculptural metalwork and design objects, often characterized by fluid organic forms and an elegant balance between function and sculpture. His work is held in numerous museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and other major design institutions.
During the late 20th century Sabattini collaborated with Rosenthal Studio-Line, translating his sculptural sensibility into porcelain objects that combine Italian design elegance with German porcelain craftsmanship.
