For sale is an original 1960s/70s String shelving unit in its original teak finish, in mint condition and with the now-discontinued 40cm system width!
ITEM #7:
String shelving unit, with 2 ladders and 3 shelves, original 1960s/70s teak finish made of solid wood!
Not to be confused with the current reissue made of veneered particleboard, which is not available in teak!
Important! The original version is made of solid wood, a so-called three-layer panel, also known as blockboard, in which solid wood strips are glued together and covered with wooden veneers on the top and bottom. A high-quality teak veneer is then glued onto these veneers. Blockboard offers significantly higher bending strength, stability, and dimensional stability compared to particleboard, while being lighter. Thanks to their solid wood core, they are ideal for high-quality, robust, and durable furniture. Particleboard is less expensive, heavier, and less load-bearing, and is prone to chipping at the edges and swelling when exposed to moisture.

DESCRIPTION: In 1949, Kajsa and Nisse Strinning, a young architect couple in Stockholm, won their first international design competition with String, a shelving system that can be easily mounted on any wall.
The perfect balance between functionality and form is the goal of String. Over the years, String has become a true design icon and, as a timeless Scandinavian design, one of the most popular designs in Sweden and worldwide. String has received more than 15 national and international awards, including the Gold Medal at the 1954 Milan Triennale. In 1979, it was added to the design collection of the Swedish National Museum.
