Lovely Kotobuki Sosaku Kokeshi. This is a very special and small wooden doll in the style of a kokeshi (or a miniature version thereof). The doll has a round head that is placed loosely on the stem/body or has a strikingly shaped form. The painting on the top of the head shows a wreath of green leaves or petals with a dark center, reminiscent of traditional Japanese motifs. The face is kept very minimalist with subtle, closed eyes and a graceful simplicity characteristic of minimalist woodcarving. There is handwritten Japanese calligraphy on the front. The front reads Kotobuki, which stands for "long life," "luck," or "prosperity"—a common good luck wish on Japanese crafts and gifts. The text on the side is the maker's signature. It has the typical charm of traditional Japanese folklore souvenirs or lucky dolls that are handcrafted from wood and hand-painted. The height is 6 cm; please view the photos for the condition. Please note: kokeshi dolls are not new, so there will always be scratches, discoloration, and/or cracks present to a greater or lesser extent.
