Lensvelt AVL Glyder — Design by Atelier Van Lieshout
A sofa by Lensvelt, designed by Atelier Van Lieshout, marked with the Lensvelt plate and serial number on the back.
The unique feature lies in what you don't see happening in the photo: the backrest is not fixed. It slides along the full length from left to right. Place it in the middle and you have a classic sofa; slide it to one side and the other half becomes a chaise longue; pull it all the way to the side and you are left with a daybed. A single piece of furniture that changes along with what you need at that moment.
Joep van Lieshout designed the Glyder for Lensvelt based on precisely that idea: a seating element that works in varying situations, at home just as well as in an office or reception area. Work by Atelier Van Lieshout is included in the collections of, among others, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Centre Pompidou, and MoMA.
The execution is as direct as the design. No legs, no visible frame, no seams to draw attention. A deep blue block with a cobalt blue back on top. The color difference between the seat and back makes the sliding motion visible, even when the sofa is stationary.
The new price of this model starts at over €1,400 including VAT.
