A marvelous oil on canvas, "Landscape of Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid," by Juan Francisco Toro de Juanas. This small-format work depicts a beautiful and serene mountain landscape in the artist's characteristic realist style. The painting appears as a small window to the outside world, offering a view of the snow-capped peak and the wooded slopes. Juan Francisco Toro de Juanas was born in 1931 in Almonacid de Zorita, Guadalajara. A Spanish painter working in the figurative and hyperrealist styles, he was a disciple of Manuel Benedicto, who in turn was a disciple of Sorolla. He has been described as the best portraitist of our time; among his portraits are those of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía. Although he was always fascinated by landscapes and nature in general as a source of inspiration, as demonstrated by the following quote: “My painting is realistic because I don't believe there is anything that surpasses what nature does. I can only try to approach it.”
