"Swatow" pewter, produced in Swatow (present-day Shantou in Guangdong province, China) where Kut Hing was the designer of pewter products.
The Kut Hing company (from the city of Swatow - now called Shantou) was arguably the most prominent Swatow pewter maker of the late 19th / early 20th century. This piece is an excellent example of the Swatow pewter style and shows Traditional, highly crafted dragon artwork. "Swatow" literally translates to "mountain head"; and most pewter products made in this region were known for their intricate decoration. The most popular and collectible items feature dragons and dragon themes.
