Illustrated in Juffermans "Kees van Dongen - The complete graphic work No. Jl 25". Cornelis Theodorus Maria van Dongen (Rotterdam-Delfshaven, January 26, 1877 – Monte Carlo, May 28, 1968) was a Dutch-French painter. Van Dongen spent his youth in Rotterdam. His talent for drawing was discovered early on, but there was no money to allow him to study. From the age of fourteen, he had to earn his own living. He took evening classes at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts and Technical Sciences (now the Willem de Kooning Academy) from 1892 to 1897, but he did not like them. In Rotterdam, he moved into a room above the studio of the painter Martinus Schilt (Schildt).
