Product description
An exceptional “Fledermaus” bentwood table designed by Josef Hoffmann circa 1905–1906, attributed to the renowned Viennese manufacturer Jacob & Josef Kohn.
Known as model 728/T, the Fledermaus table belongs to one of Josef Hoffmann’s most recognizable furniture groups and is closely associated with the celebrated Cabaret Fledermaus interior in Vienna. Period documentation identifies the model with J. & J. Kohn production.
The table is constructed from bent beech wood and beech plywood, stained in a rich dark tone. Its circular top is supported by an architectural arrangement of slender cylindrical bentwood elements punctuated by characteristic spherical details. The composition beautifully reflects Hoffmann’s geometric approach and the transition from the Vienna Secession toward early modernist design.
The original manufacturer’s label or stamp is no longer preserved on this particular example; therefore, the execution is conservatively attributed to J. & J. Kohn.
Carefully refurbished and finished with traditional shellac polish, minor signs of use and age.
