Jörg Immendorff (Bleckede, June 14, 1945 - Düsseldorf, May 28, 2007) was a German painter and sculptor. From 1996 until the day of his death, he was a professor at the Art Academy Düsseldorf.
Life and Work
Immendorf studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf in the 1960s. Initially he studied scenography with Teo Otto, then (from 1964) fine art with Joseph Beuys. During his studies he was involved in extra-parliamentary politics. He joined the Maoist-Leninist Communist Party of Germany (KPD/ML) and, among other things, designed their pamphlets. He was eventually expelled from the academy because of his provocative neo-Dadaist actions.
