Jotje (Jopie) Huisman (Workum, October 18, 1922 – Groningen, September 29, 2000) was a self-taught Dutch painter and draftsman. Huisman was born as the youngest of a family of seven children. From his youth, Huisman drew what he saw around him and what moved him. At the vocational school in Sneek, he obtained a diploma as a house painter, and in 1939 he became a ceramic painter at the Aurora pottery in Workum. In 1942, he was arrested during a raid and put to work in a labor camp near Kassel, but in 1943 he escaped and went into hiding in Workum until the end of the war. He led a somewhat irregular existence until 1949.
