Product description
Rare set of three ceramic elephants made by Italian artist Ivo De Santis, 1950 Florence, Gli Etruschi. His work is rarely offered, at most at auctions and galleries. This set of three is unique. Heights 6.5 cm, 9.5 cm and 12.5 cm. Ivo De Santis opened his ceramic studio in Florence, Italy in the early 1950s and named it Gli Etruschi (the Etruscans). Although virtually no biographical or historical information can be found about De Santis or his workshop, it is clear that almost all of the company's exclusively handmade products were exported to the United States. It is rare to find anything by Gli Etruschi produced in Italy. The work of Ivo De Santis is very popular in the US. In the 1960s and 1970s, Gli Etruschi was widely distributed by American importers Raymor and Rosenthal Netter, and the artist quickly became known for his bold and quirky ceramic creations. Gli Etruschi's products consisted mainly of small animal and human figurines. The pieces were rarely signed, but were always labeled with a foil sticker that rarely survived. Fortunately, Ivo De Santis' work is recognizable for its distinctly original style.
