This dining set, designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe, is a characteristic example of Dutch design from the mid-twentieth century. The set consists of an extendable dining table and four matching chairs, which together form a harmonious whole.
The dining table (TB35) features the characteristic sloping plywood edge and slender, tapered legs. The chairs (SB03) have elegantly curved plywood frames, which ensure a springy and very comfortable seating experience.
The design of the table and chair is part of the Birch Series, which Braakman designed for Pastoe. The table has a round top that can be extended to an oval shape. The upholstery is typical of the chairs of this model.
Based on the details of the furniture, it can be assumed that these are Pastoe pieces. Hard proof is lacking; no stamps are visible (anymore). However, a signature is visible on the chairs.
The set is in good, usable condition, appropriate for its age and use. The woodwork displays an authentic patina that contributes to the character of the furniture. The finish (lacquer) could use a refresh. The upholstery is intact, but not original.
This dining set fits perfectly into a vintage or Scandinavian-inspired interior. The warm wood tones and the red accents on the chairs create an inviting atmosphere in the dining room.
