French or Belgian Atelier, circa 1925–1935
Description
An exceptional and imposing Art Deco sculpture capturing a dynamic scene: a powerful animal in full stride bearing an elegantly stylized female rider. The composition is mounted on its original multi-tiered veined marble base, a hallmark of French and Belgian decorative arts from the interwar period.
The animal is meticulously carved from a dark organic material—likely tinted horn or dense bone—exhibiting natural striations and a lustrous, polished finish. The rider, executed in metal with a warm golden patina, is defined by geometric contours, a pleated skirt, and elongated lines, embodying the quintessential Art Deco aesthetic of the 1925–1935 era.
The contrasting tones of cream, pink, and black marble enhance the sense of movement and elegance, making this piece a striking centerpiece for any collection.
