Antique Russian Icon.
Mother of God of Smolenskaya ca. 1750/1800
A beautiful and complete authentic Russian Orthodox domestic icon.
Second half of the 18th century and in beautiful, unrestored, and characteristic condition.
The icon belongs to the iconographic type of the HODEGETRIA (she who shows the way).
Mary is depicted frontally and points with her right hand to the Christ Child on her left arm.
Jesus holds a scroll and makes a blessing gesture.
Internal sponki not visible on the back.
Typical second half of the 18th century.
Much text is incised on the back.
