An exceptional Kohinoor Lounge Chair with matching Ottoman, designed by Howard Keith for HK Furniture. The sculptural swivel chair combines generous seating comfort with a striking, almost futuristic design language and is one of the characteristic British lounge designs of the late Mid-Century era.
Chair and ottoman are in very good original condition. The black leather is soft and well-maintained, showing only minimal, authentic patina. The metal frames are also very well preserved and show only minor age-related signs of use. There are slight signs of wear on the back of the chair, but these hardly detract from the overall excellent impression. The ottoman shows a minimal tilt.
The Kohinoor impresses with its high, two-part backrest, the amply upholstered armrests, and the deeply sculpted seat. The black leather with its subtle button tufting underscores the luxurious character of the design. A fascinating contrast is formed by the striking, four-star metal swivel base, which gives the voluminous chair a surprisingly light and modern appearance. The generous ottoman consistently picks up on the construction, leather, and frame shape of the chair and completes the ensemble.
Howard Keith is one of the interesting representatives of British post-war design. As a designer and founder of HK Furniture, he developed furniture that combined traditional British upholstery craftsmanship with modern constructions and new manufacturing techniques. HK Furniture was considered a high-quality British furniture manufacturer and furnished, among other things, the QE2, Marlborough House, and the Royal Train.
A rare and expressive vintage lounge chair with ottoman that combines British Mid-Century design, high seating comfort, and a distinctive sculptural presence – a special collector's item for discerning interiors and design enthusiasts.
