Two-seater sofa from the Hombre series, designed by Burkhard Vogtherr for Rosenthal and produced as part of the Rosenthal Furniture program.
In 1972, Rosenthal expanded its activities from porcelain to its own furniture collection, which was manufactured in its own factory in Espelkamp, Germany. Under the Rosenthal Furniture label, the company collaborated with leading designers such as Burkhard Vogtherr and Günter Ferdinand Ris. This program resulted in signature designs such as Vogtherr's Hombre seating series and Ris's Sunball spherical chair, with which Rosenthal positioned itself as a design-oriented furniture manufacturer in the 1970s.
The Hombre sofa features a solid wood frame with continuous sled legs and gently rounded armrests. Loose leather seat and back cushions are integrated into the frame, clearly revealing the construction while providing a comfortable and relaxing seating experience. The proportions are balanced and well-considered, typical of Vogtherr's approach to late 20th-century furniture design.
