A richly detailed and evocative lidded box from the coveted “Die Russischen Märchen” series by Heinrich, today part of the Villeroy & Boch group. This edition illustrates Die Schneekönigin (“The Snow Maiden”), interpreted by the celebrated Russian émigré artist Boris Zvorykin (1872–1942)—one of the great visual storytellers who bridged the worlds of Art Nouveau, Russian Revival, and early 20th-century illustration.
Rendered on fine glossy porcelain, the lid presents Snegurochka at the court of Tsar Berendei, a tableau glowing with jewel-tone colour, gold accents, intricate folkloric detailing, and Zvorykin’s unmistakable ornate linear style. His work, deeply rooted in Slavic ornamentation and miniature-painting traditions, has long fascinated collectors for its magical synthesis of narrative richness and decorative sophistication.
