Harry Bertoia, 1970s The Wire Chair, model 420, was designed in 1952 by Harry Bertoia for Knoll International in the United States and is an iconic work of modern design. Dating back to 1952, this innovative design consists of a structure of steel wire supported by slender metal legs. In the original handcraft, each wire was carefully bent by hand before being welded and colored, highlighting Bertoia's artisanal approach to design. This piece is dated from the 1970s and a key feature is the metal thickness used in those years and the technical solution on which the cover was attached to the base.
This chair is an original version of Bertoia's design. Purchased in the early 1980s at Wonen 2000 Amsterdam. A mark of authenticity includes the steel thickness of the construction which determines the weight and not unimportantly the aesthetic appearance.
Good condition, sighs of usage with slight user damage to the floor glides.
