Elegant sterling silver ashtray (925 sterling silver) – Made in Siam (Thailand) – Elaborate handwork (chasing/repoussé). For sale is an exceptionally artistic and high-quality sterling silver ashtray. The piece is stamped on the underside with "STERLING – MADE IN SIAM." This object is a classic example of globally prized Siamese silver and impresses with its masterful, traditional craftsmanship. The three-dimensional decorations were painstakingly crafted by hand using repoussé techniques. The wide rim is adorned with delicate, flowing Kanok ornaments (traditional Thai flame and plant motifs). A particular highlight is the two intricately chased relief figures from Thai temple art: the Garuda (winged god): a mythological creature (half human, half eagle) that symbolizes power, strength, protection, and victory over evil. It is also the official national emblem of Thailand. The Thepphanom (temple angel): A celestial being in a reverential prayer posture (wai). Such figures traditionally adorn the entrances of Thai temples and symbolize peace, protection, and welcome. Additionally, there is an empty cartouche (name field) on the rim, originally intended for a personal engraving. Product details: Origin & craftsmanship: Siam (now Thailand), circa mid-20th century (Mid-Century / Vintage Export). Traditional silversmithing (Siamese silver). Material: 925 sterling silver (stamped). Technique: Chasing & repoussé work. Features: Three integrated rests for cigarettes or cigarillos. Total weight: 147 g. Pure silver weight (92.5%): approx. 136.9 g fine silver. Condition: Used, overall very well-maintained vintage condition. The finely decorated relief on the top is beautifully preserved and exhibits a charming, authentic patina. There are fine scratches on the underside and in the mirror due to age and use (see photos). Material value estimate: The pure silver melt value is currently (depending on the daily rate) approximately €155 to €170. Due to the elaborate handcrafting, the detailed temple motifs, and the collector's value of Siamese silver, the actual value for enthusiasts is correspondingly higher. Ideal for collectors of Asian handicrafts, historical silver, or as an elegant vintage decorative piece for the table. Assuming a fine silver price of approximately €1.15–€1.25 per gram (depending on the current daily rate), the pure material value is approximately: * 136 g × €1.15 = approx. €156. * 136 g × €1.25 = approx. €170.
