Cornelis Guillaume van Beverloo, better known as Corneille (Liège, July 3, 1922 – Auvers-sur-Oise (France), September 5, 2010), was a painter and graphic artist who radicalized the conservative Dutch art world in the early 1950s.
Together with five other influential artists, including Karel Appel and Constant, he founded the post-war European expressionist movement CoBrA in 1948.
Between 1940 and 1942, Corneille took courses in drawing and etching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, but is generally regarded as a self-taught painter.
Initially strongly influenced by the work of Picasso, Corneille created abstract work.
From the late 1960s onwards, Corneille's work took on a more figurative character.
In this work, birds, women, and flowers are often the subject. Type of work: Screen print
