Gijs van der Sluis had a secondary technical education and is self-taught with regard to architecture and design. Gijs van der Sluis was responsible from 1950 to 1990 for the family business “Van der Sluis Stalen Meubelen”. He was the house designer and took care of the well-running timeless chairs and of course the famous sofa bed.
He was very successful and his vision was the reason that the family business enjoyed prosperous times during these years. The sofa bed with serial number 540 sofa is one of his models, which has never changed and is still sold by the Casala under the name Siesta.
