Set of 4 (or 10!) vintage Dutch design dining chairs, designed by Gerard Geytenbeek and produced by AZS Meubelen (Schoonhoven), 1960s. Minimalist solid oak chairs with a refined, architectural silhouette and a gently curved backrest.
Signed underneath with the signature of Geytenbeek (see photo). The design is closely related to the chairs Martin Visser created for 't Spectrum in the same period, with the warmer, crafted signature of AZS.
The seats are upholstered in what appears to be the original wool in a warm cognac tone (brown/orange), in lovely condition. The oak is fresh and even, with light traces of use in keeping with its age.
Dimensions per chair: 77 (h) x 48 (w) x 47 (d) cm.
Condition: good to very good vintage condition. Pickup or shipping in consultation.
Over de ontwerper / About the designer:
Gerard Geytenbeek (Utrecht, 1934 to Zwijndrecht, 2008) was a Dutch furniture designer and architect, known for his mid-century designs with clean, functional lines and high-quality materials. He was in contact with Utrecht design icons such as Gerrit Rietveld and drew inspiration from his work, an influence visible in the clear, architectural structure of these chairs. Besides his work for AZS Meubelen, he designed the well-known "Plataan" dining table. His pieces are now sought after by collectors internationally.
Also available: a matching set of 6 of these chairs (see my other listing). Sets can be combined into a larger set of 10, in consultation.
