This is an authentic Pretzel Chair, designed by George Nelson in 1952 and produced by Vitra. This specific piece is a limited anniversary edition from 2008, making it a special collector's item within the canon of Mid-Century Modern design. Only 1000 pieces were released globally / this chair is no. 0259/1000.
The chair is made from carefully bent Santos palisander veneer wood, resulting in its characteristic sculptural shape reminiscent of a pretzel. The warm, brown finish accentuates the natural wood grain. This example is number 0259 of a limited edition of 1000 pieces, as indicated on the original Vitra plate under the seat, confirming its authenticity and origin.
The overall condition of the chair is excellent, retaining its original finish and structural integrity. The design, originally known as Model 566, was a technical challenge in its time and remains a testament to innovative furniture design.

Rare Pretzel Chair, designed by George Nelson in 1952 and reissued by Vitra in 2008 as a special Anniversary Edition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Nelson’s birth. Only 1,000 individually numbered pieces were produced. This example is no. 0259/1000.
The design became known as the Pretzel Chair because of its extraordinary continuous curves. The sculptural backrest and armrests, circular seat and slender tapered legs give the chair an exceptionally light and elegant silhouette. Made from moulded laminated wood with a beautifully figured Santos palisander veneer.
A rare collector’s piece and one of George Nelson’s most distinctive designs.
