Jean Gerbino's ceramic chevrette or gargoulette is an exceptional piece, very rare to find and in perfect condition. This artist, born in 1876 and died in 1966, began his career in Italy before joining Delphin Massier's workshop. In 1930, he founded his own studio in Vallauris, where he perfected an innovative technique of mosaic on ceramics that set him apart from contemporaries such as Roger Capron and Pablo Picasso. Gerbino made his mark on the Côte d'Azur artistic scene, surrounded by such influential figures as Jean Cocteau and Jean Lurçat. This work testifies to his unique expertise and the creative spirit that marked the region's ceramic art. To own a piece by Gerbino is to own a piece of twentieth-century artistic history.
