The designer: 'The family business Sciolari Illuminazione Roma, founded in 1892 by father Sciolari in Rome Italy. It was the son Angelo Gaetano Sciolari who took over the company in 1949 after the sudden death of his father. Angelo Gaetano was then 22 years young and had just graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Rome. He dreamed of a career as a film director and had just started his education when his plans took a different turn. He was a very ambitious person who bundled his knowledge of architecture and his interest in the film world 'Hollywood minded' to lift the family business and its product range to higher spheres. So he succeeded quite well. As early as 1954 he won a decisive design competition with his new lighting designs for the family business. At the same time, he conquered the American market in addition to the Italian / European market. ' Sciolari goes Hollywood' would have sounded to the family. But not on the silver screen, but in the catalogs of American lighting giant Lightolier. In the 1950s, Sciolari became the first Italian lighting manufacturer to enter the American market. In this way he found his way to the international film screen, but with his designs. For example, his luminaries appeared in series such as 'Dallas' 1983, the British Sci-Fi series 'Space' 1999. He also founded the 'association of Italian manufacturers of lighting fixtures Milano' and was its chairman. Today, this association is still very active in Italy. He also received design assignments for Stilnovo Milan, Stilkronen Firenze, Progress Lighting (US), Helestra and Leola (West Germany), Lyfa (Denmark) and SA Boulanger in Belgium. Angelo Gaetano Sciolari was clearly inspired by the atomic structure (see for example the Belgian Atomium, atom Fe, iron) and the contemporary modernist architectural influences including Cubism, geometry and the ' Space Age' influences and perhaps also the megalomania of the Americans.
