Beautiful vintage armchair model ‘FM07’, designed by Cees Braakman and produced by Pastoe in the late 1950s. This model is part of the famous Japanese series, in which Braakman drew inspiration from the tranquility, simplicity, and refined detailing of Japanese design. This armchair originates from Friesland, where it was used with love for decades. It has now been carefully restored with respect for the original design. The slender metal frame has been deliberately left in its original state and displays a beautiful, subtle patina that tells the story of the past decades and underscores the authenticity of the armchair. The seat, backrest, and armrests have been completely renewed with high-quality foam and reupholstered in a striking, soft green wool fabric. The rich color and subtle texture of the fabric form a beautiful contrast with the sleek black frame and enhance the graphic design of the armchair. Moreover, the seating comfort is once again as Braakman originally intended, which is, of course, not entirely unimportant. Characteristic of this armchair is the playful way in which Cees Braakman played with lines and volumes. The sleek, angular frame forms a powerful contrast with the generous, almost block-shaped seat, detached backrest, and wide armrests. This creates a design that appears robust, comfortable, and surprisingly distinctive. It is precisely this combination of functionality, clean lines, and experimental design that makes the FM07 one of the most characteristic and successful designs in Braakman's Japanese series. In short: an armchair to sink into comfortably. With a good glass of wine, a fine book, or good company, the FM07 truly comes into its own. A beautiful example of progressive Dutch design from the late 1950s.
