Rare and very beautiful Scandinavian glass design, a rather large footed bowl or plate, suitable for fruit or confectionery made by Iittala Finland. The bowl is known as "Avanto" (which translates to the Finnish word for ice hole). It is a thing of beauty with shiny clear crystal glass, which is vividly structured under the bottom and highly polished on the top. The design bears resemblance to a water vortex or whirlpool, swirling around a hole in the ice. As always, Wirkkala’s design has a timeless modern feeling and this is a very rare Finnish glass design object from one of Finland's most famous designers in great condition. Manufacturer: Iittala/Finland. Artist/Designer: Tapio Wirkkala ( ). Material: Clear crystal glass. Size: Diameter 25.5 cm and Height 7 cm. Condition: Excellent, rather like new. The original plastic foil label is very worn (see photo).
