For sale is an exceptional Zanzibar chest.
The chest is crafted from solid teak and elaborately decorated with brass fittings, ornaments, and rivets. Such pieces were traditionally used in East Africa and the Arab-Indian region as prestigious storage chests. Today, they are highly sought after, especially as decorative statement pieces.
We purchased this chest in Africa in the 1970s. This particular example is exceptionally large and impressively crafted. The combination of warm wood tones, brass details, and handcrafted workmanship makes the chest a true eye-catcher, for example, in a living room, entryway, studio, office, or as a special collector's item.
Inside, the chest offers ample storage space. It also features three drawers, a separate compartment, and a "secret" compartment.
