Presenting an extraordinary example of the "Black & White" suspension lamp, designed in 1965 by the masters of Italian design, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos. This is not just a lamp; it is a sophisticated lighting machine that allows for two completely different atmospheres in one single object.
The name "Black & White" refers to the two types of light emission.
The "White" effect: A warm, ambient diffused light achieved through the large opal dome.
The "Black" effect: A sharp, downward-oriented light perfect for dining tables or work surfaces. This is achieved through the iconic corrugated cup in mirror-polished natural aluminum located at the bottom of the diffuser.
The design incorporates a clever internal structure. The central corrugated aluminum insert is designed to house a silver-crowned bulb to maximize reflection without glare. This technical rigor, combined with the poetic form of the dome, makes it one of the most innovative pendants in the history of 20th-century lighting.
