Beautiful set of two vintage ‘EK’ armchairs, designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by N. Eilersen in the 1960s. Wikkelsø began his career as a furniture maker, something clearly reflected in the EK. Not only is comfort central, but also the way the construction becomes a visible part of the design. These armchairs have been fully restored with respect for the original design. The solid teak frames have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, carefully preserving the characteristic patina; it is precisely this that gives the armchairs their authentic character. The seats and backrests feature new, high-quality foam and have been reupholstered in Keymer’s Jorvik wool upholstery fabric in an aubergine shade. The rich hue of the fabric and the warm teak complement each other seamlessly, giving the armchairs a refined appearance. The EK is a beautiful example of Danish design from the 1960s. Illum Wikkelsø was known for his organic designs, in which comfort and craftsmanship went hand in hand. This is reflected in the slender lines, the elegantly shaped legs, and the refined contrasting wood joints in the armrests. An understated design, yet with a surprisingly powerful presence. Beyond its design, the EK is above all an armchair in which you naturally find yourself sitting a little longer than you originally intended. The generous cushions and relaxed seating position make it an armchair in which you effortlessly sink back with a good glass of wine and a good book. A timeless Danish design that, more than sixty years later, still fits effortlessly into both modern and vintage interiors. Two pieces available; price is per piece.
