This EA-110 lounge swivel chair is a design icon, the result of a long development phase and part of a limited first-generation series from the ALU-GROUP, built before the actual industrial-scale production by HERMAN MILLER in the US.
The chair has been reupholstered!
NOTE: The last two photos include screenshots of Charles and Ray Eames working on and developing the chairs from the Aluminum Group, elements from various development studies as currently exhibited at the EAMES INSTITUTE in California, and an image of the model from an early Herman Miller brochure.
The chair has been reupholstered! Design Features:
Aluminum sand-cast construction
Exceptionally solid aluminum base frame (pedestal) with two solid brass swivel bearings
Naturally, this model does without the front aluminum stretcher bar, as the aluminum bar of the base frame is designed to engage in the groove of the side panels, thus providing the necessary tension. This also corresponds to the original design concept of Charles and Ray Eames. Today, for economic reasons, the base frame bar is simply screwed on, requiring an additional stretcher bar.
Please note the particularly beautiful and sweeping shape of the base frame. It also bears no manufacturer's markings, patent numbers, or serial numbers!
The "PATENT PENDING" marking, found on early models before the patent was granted, is also absent here!
For the sand-colored reupholstering, we were able to engage an experienced upholsterer/seamstress and Eames expert who did an outstanding job!
The new edition features a four-layer construction, consisting of a support layer, an intermediate layer, and high-strength upholstery fabric from JAB ANSTOETZ.
The high-quality textile creations of the JAB ANSTOETZ GROUP are appreciated worldwide.

Used furniture – The swivel chair is in very good condition and has been reupholstered! The aluminum parts have been carefully and discreetly restored!

Many of them are still in successful production today, and their legendary original models are highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts.

The American furniture manufacturer HERMAN MILLER has its roots in the early 20th century. With Ray and Charles Eames, the company succeeded in attracting the most important designers of the modern era.
In 1950, VITRA Deutschland GmbH was founded in Weil am Rhein, Germany. This marked the beginning of VITRA seating production, with authorized manufacturing and licensed distribution of Herman Miller products for the European market.
