Stunning dining or coffee table in satinwood with a modesty panel and hand-carved oak legs. The satinwood top, finished with a satin varnish, has a richer tone. It rests on a Regency-style leg, also known as a tree leg, with a faceted shaft in the shape of a quadrangular pyramid trunk. Its four sides are carved with decorative scenes of flora and fauna. This central shaft bifurcates into four saber-shaped legs, crafted from washed oak with ornamental carvings. The circular profile is embellished with a washed and carved oak apron, adorned with a palm leaf border. The tabletop is divided into four sections, reminiscent of the traditional English Regency style. It features a partial extension mechanism to accommodate various extensions, which are not currently available and would be custom-made to meet individual needs. It can also be used as a meeting or work table.
The visual appeal of this piece is highly decorative and unique, making it a singular work of timeless beauty and aesthetics. Refined and elegant, it integrates seamlessly into both classic and contemporary settings.
The design is attributed to the prestigious workshop of Spanish designer Rafael García, dating from the 1970s. Rafael García Nicolau (1914-2007), father of architect Álvaro García Luján and recipient of the Medal of Honor from the Official College of Architects of Madrid in 1996, was a leading figure in the field of decoration and furniture during the second half of the 20th century, encompassing all facets: design and creation, the manufacture of original and imported elements of the Modern Movement, the integration of design with architecture and other major and minor arts, and the dissemination of his ideals and advocacy for the profession. His career is part of the history of interior design in Spain, evolving from the tradition of Valencian furniture to the creation of a distinctive style with a much more modern inspiration. So much so that the international firm Knoll granted Rafael García an exclusive license to manufacture in Spain models by Mies van der Rohe, Bertoia, and Saarinen, among others. He was also one of the driving forces behind the National College of Decorators, which he presided over during its initial phase.
Among his notable works are the decoration of the Gran Vía cinemas, the Los Sótanos shopping center, and the legendary Pasapoga restaurant—all in the Spanish capital. He also worked in Morocco, the United States, and Latin America.
