Designed by Vincent van Duysen for Pastoe, this Totem represents exactly what contemporary European design excels at: reduction to the essence, without loss of character.
The object is constructed from a sleek cubic volume in which a swivel function is integrated. As a result, the furniture subtly adapts to the space and its use—a detail typical of Van Duysen’s architectural approach.
The combination of a light oak top with carefully chosen grey tones gives the whole a calm yet layered appearance. No superfluous lines, no decoration—just material, proportion, and function.
Pastoe is known for its consistent quality, high-end finish, and collaboration with leading designers. Within that framework, the Totem is a compact yet distinctive object that fits effortlessly into a high-end interior.
The light signs of wear are limited and consistent with normal use, and do not detract from the appearance.

Vincent van Duysen (1962) is one of the most influential contemporary Belgian designers and architects. His work is characterized by a sober, almost monastic approach to space and object.
He consistently works with pure volumes, honest materials, and restrained use of color.
For brands such as Molteni, B&B Italia, and Pastoe, he developed objects in which architecture and furniture design merge.
The Totem is exemplary of his vision: not decoration, but proportion, material, and function as the sole means of expression. Designed in 2012, it is part of a larger series produced in small editions in various heights and versions; with the bankruptcy of Pastoe, these are no longer available.
This beautiful piece can easily be used as a compact storage unit, side table, drinks table, nightstand, or sculptural display object. Heavy and solidly constructed, rotating smoothly 360 degrees around its axis.
