This elegant umbrella stand comes from Deruta, the famous Umbrian town known for its refined majolica since the 15th century. The piece is entirely handcrafted and painted by artisans who remain true to the centuries-old tradition.
The setting is executed in the classic Ricco Deruta motif, one of the oldest and most beloved patterns in Italian ceramic history. The motif is characterized by slender acanthus leaves, stylized flowers and arabesques, executed in deep cobalt blue, warm ochre yellow, green and terracotta tones on a white background.
The umbrella stand features two handles that are elegantly integrated into the shape, making it not only functional but also harmonious. On both sides, the stand is decorated with so-called "Moor heads" (decorative faces or medallions in relief), which, as a typical Renaissance detail, add an extra touch of authenticity and grandeur. Deruta vases with 2 different decorative additions (handles and Moorkoppen) are not common.
Thanks to its generous size, this piece is perfect as a practical umbrella stand in an entrance hall, but it equally comes into its own as a decorative showpiece in a living room. Each one is unique as it is completely hand-painted.
The stand is about 52 cm high and has a diameter of about 30 cm, including the handles about 38 cm. There are 2 chips on the bottom edge and a chunk has broken off (see photos). When placed correctly, these damages are almost not visible, as shown in the photos.
As it is a fragile piece it is best picked up or sent via courier.
At the bottom edge, 2 chips are present and a chunk has broken off (see photos). When placed correctly, these damages are virtually invisible, as shown in the photos.
