The decorative shell was made in the 1970s in Italy.
It is a hand-formed decoration in the shape of a shell, made of porcelain (or high-quality faience) and covered with pearl glaze, which creates subtle rainbow reflections in the light. Forms of this type were popular in the 1960s-1980s, especially in Italian, German and Spanish manufactories, where they were often used as elements of luxurious interior designs. The shell can serve a purely decorative or practical function – as a bowl for sweets or small items. The iridescent surface beautifully emphasises its organic form.
