Danish Chest of Drawers, Denmark, 1960s
This Danish chest of drawers embodies the restrained elegance that defines Scandinavian cabinetmaking of the 1960s. Raised on slender tapered legs, the cabinet has a light architectural presence, while the carefully proportioned six-drawer layout provides generous storage within a compact footprint. The warm teak veneer displays a calm, consistent grain pattern across the drawer fronts, complemented by sculpted solid teak handles that appear to flow seamlessly from one drawer to the next.
Each drawer is traditionally constructed with dovetail joinery and slides smoothly within the cabinet. The upper drawer is fitted with a working lock and key, discreetly integrated into the design without disturbing its clean lines. The softly sculpted handles provide both visual refinement and comfortable everyday use, demonstrating the thoughtful approach to functionality that characterises Danish modern furniture.
