1960s Danish chest of drawers in beech and teak, produced by Karl Andersson & Söner, featuring sculpted conical handles.
Danish chest of drawers designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Karl Andersson & Söner, crafted in beech with teak drawer fronts. The contrast between the lighter structural frame and the warm depth of the drawers emphasizes the rational and material-driven approach of the design. The overall expression is solid and classical, with compact volumes and a full base that enhances visual stability and structural clarity. The sculpted conical handles, turned directly from wood, stand out as small sculptural elements. Børge Mogensen was one of the leading figures of postwar Danish modernism. Educated at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts and influenced by Kaare Klint, he developed a design philosophy rooted in functionality, proportion and longevity. For Mogensen, furniture had to be democratic, durable and suited to everyday life.
