This exceptional table from the long-established Swiss manufacturer Horgenglarus exemplifies functional furniture design in an institutional context. Produced as a special order for military facilities – specifically for use in barracks – this model was never part of the regular production collection, but was designed with robustness, durability, and ease of maintenance in mind. Its clear, minimalist design language follows a functional, almost industrial aesthetic, typical of post-war Switzerland, particularly in the public and military sectors. A characteristic feature is the generously sized tabletop with an inlaid light blue resin surface, framed by a solid wood edge. This combination unites resilience with a pleasant feel and was typical for work and dining tables in institutional settings. The galvanized steel tube base with a continuous crossbar ensures high stability while allowing maximum legroom – a crucial advantage in canteens or multi-purpose rooms. The bolted construction and visible metal joints underscore the table's functional purpose and industrial manufacturing process.
