A 1950s glazed ceramic wall sculpture by Helmut Schäffenacker. Its expressionist design and glazed reliefs are reminiscent of some of the anthropomorphic works of Pablo Picasso, Roger Capron, Jean Jaffeux, and the Cloutier brothers, created in terracotta.
Schäffenacker is my favorite German ceramicist. He was the son of Otto Schäffenacker, a renowned painter of the early 20th century. The ceramic production of his workshop was very limited, making his works rarer than those of other ceramists of the period.
The plaque has a hanging system on the back.
Excellent overall condition with only minor signs of age for a piece that is nearly 70 years old.
