Complete Set of 30 Caméléon Glasses by Sergio Asti for Arnolfo di Cambio, Alexandrite Glass, Violet, Vintage 1970s
For sale: a complete set of 30 Caméléon glasses, designed by the Milanese architect and designer Sergio Asti for the Tuscan glassworks Arnolfo di Cambio, circa 1970. Superb condition, like new.
The Caméléon series takes its name from its exceptional optical property: made of neodymium alexandrite glass, these glasses change color depending on the light—a delicate lavender violet in natural light, a light blue under artificial light. A fascinating phenomenon that makes each glass a living object as well as a refined tableware item. The solid stem is adorned with a decorative air bubble in the Pulega style, a characteristic handcrafted touch of Tuscan glassmaking. Several pieces from the Sergio Asti for Arnolfo di Cambio collection are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
A rare opportunity to acquire a complete and consistent set of 30 glasses in perfect condition—a configuration extremely difficult to assemble on the collector's market today.
