Superb mid-century coffee table. The top is composed of terracotta-colored fired lava stone tiles and ceramic tiles. The base is made of steel.
Jean Jaffeux (1931-2015) was a ceramicist and painter from the Auvergne region of France, specializing in enameling on lava stone. For over fifty years, he created decorative works and monumental commissions for churches, public buildings, and private clients. His work, often featuring abstract or nature-inspired motifs, helped to popularize the art of enameled lava in France and around the world.
His coffee tables, along with those made from other materials, are in the same vein as the coffee tables of Roger Capron and Vallauris.
