Product description
Cloisonné Enamel Vase, Qing Dynasty, 1900 - China Exquisite and unique Chinese vase with baluster, Qing Dynasty, early 20th century, circa 1900. Cloisonné enamel vase with floral motifs. The floral motifs, in this case polychrome peonies, cherry blossoms, and lotus flowers, are presented on a bronze body, creating a dynamic, diverse, and visually light decorative space. This beautiful ornamentation unfolds against a geometric background that contrasts with and enriches the overall design. The mouth of the vase is framed in a beautiful peacock blue enamel with an inset polychrome star wreath. The entire piece is outlined in gilt bronze. The base bears an illegible signature and inscription. This type of vase was very common in both the Qing period in China and the Ming period in Japan. These are collector's items of great aesthetic appeal, created using an artistic technique of enameling on metal with cells, called cloisonné, highly valued in the art and decoration market. The cloisonné enameling technique originated in the 12th century BC, but it was during the Byzantine era that it reached its greatest development. By the 13th and 14th centuries, the technique had reached China and from there Japan, where it experienced its greatest boom in the 19th century, especially thanks to the World's Fairs. Its "golden age," between 1890 and 1910, was a time of great international dissemination of Japanese enameled pieces, known as shippo in Japanese, renowned for their high quality and technical perfection. The Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) was the last imperial dynasty of China, ruled by the Manchus, an ethnic group that originated in northeastern China. This dynasty played a fundamental role in Chinese history, marking a period of great territorial expansion, cultural exchange, and also internal and external challenges that ultimately led to the end of the imperial system.
