A Dining set designed by Bob Van Den Berghe for the Belgian manufacturer Vanden Berghe-Pauwers. The set consists of the iconic 'Cirkante' table and eight matching 'Iris' chairs, a design selected in 1982 by the Belgian Design Centre. The 'Cirkante' table, designed in 1976, is made of solid oak with a satin lacquer finish. Its ingenious design can transform from a 145 x 145 cm square for eight people to a 200 x 200 cm octagon for twelve people. The central insert is made of black granite. The eight 'Iris' chairs feature a distinctive sculptural frame of solid oak and a seat upholstered in black leather. The overall condition of the set is very good, retaining its original finish and structure. The woodwork shows a consistent color, and the leather of the chairs has a character consistent with careful use over the years. This set is a representative example of Belgian design from the late 20th century. This complete and extendable dining set is a statement piece that offers both functionality and a strong aesthetic presence. It fits perfectly into a modern, minimalist, or design-oriented interior, where the combination of natural materials and geometric shapes is truly appreciated.
