An Icon of Czechoslovak Art Glass – the "Tulip" Vase, Designed by Josef Hospodka for the Chřibská Sklárna Glassworks
For sale is a beautiful, fully original vase made of heavy, thick art glass. Designed by the renowned designer Josef Hospodka and produced at the renowned Chřibská Sklárna Glassworks at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, it is a flagship and highly recognizable example of Czechoslovak organic design.
Distinguishing Features:
Unique Colorway (Macchia): The interior of the vase is decorated with an expressive, spotted and streaked composition in deep shades of cobalt blue and sunny yellow. The entire piece is covered with a thick layer of colorless sodium glass, giving the piece incredible depth when exposed to light. Organic flower form: The top of the vase is formed into characteristic, wavy, upwardly extending protrusions reminiscent of the petals of a spreading tulip. The massive, twisted base (foot) provides stability and smoothly transitions into the clear glass at the bottom.
High collectible status: The combination of cobalt and yellow in the designs from the Chřibská glassworks is one of the most sought-after and photogenic color combinations of the era.
