Vintage pair of glazed ceramic Komainu figurines with a crackle effect, Guardian Lions, better known as Foo dogs, hand-painted in turquoise and green. This collector's item dates from the second half of the 20th century, China. It is unmarked. They are not identical; one has a light-colored base, the other a dark-colored base.
These figurines depict Foo dogs, originating from China. The original Guardian Lions can be traced back to the Han Dynasty, where they were traditionally displayed in front of Chinese imperial palaces, government offices, and the homes of the wealthy.
These objects are in good vintage condition, with a tiny chip from the bottom of one right ear. Please see the photos for more details.
