You could certainly place flowers or fruit inside, but honestly, this centerpiece bowl is a sculptural work of art in its own right. The organic shape is meant to evoke a drop of water, frozen in time, a fraction of a second after hitting a surface. Gravity pulls the center of the drop downward, while energy creates a splash upward and outward, forming the work's radiating arms.
Several makers created crystals with similar designs between 1960 and 1980. However, this piece is quite unusual. The radiating arms of other specimens extend evenly from the inside, but the arms of this piece display a more dynamic distribution. Furthermore, the arms of similar specimens have only one finger, while this central piece has two each, emphasizing the crystalline form of the arching water.
